Shaheen’s assistant drops $25,000 in a wrapped stack $100 bills on the brass tabletop.

Ed looks at the money, picks it up, and rifles through the stack. It’s all there. 

“I promise, if I’m followed, I’ll go straight to the police,” says Ed. “Besides, it might take every one of you to retrieve the stones. They could be scattered all over the city.”

“When can we expect this call?” asks Shaheen.

“When everyone’s safe,” says Ed.  He looks around at Shaheen’s crew, then stands up and walks out of the room. 

Shaheen watches Ed go, then motions to her men to follow him.
