Back at Shaheen’s mansion, the SAVAK men are chowing down on pistachios.
“All she wants is the money, and no more trouble,” says Ed to Shaheen.
“Who are you?” asks Shaheen.
“That’s all she wants – just what was promised her and the assurance of her safe-” continues Ed.
“What about you?” interrupts Shaheen.
“I’m just a friend,” says Ed.
“A friend – of Jack Caper’s, too?” asks Shaheen. “You drive his car. What do you want?”
“She said she’d split the money with me,” replies Ed.
“All this risk, for twelve and a half thousand dollars?” laughs Shaheen. “No. Please!”
“No, of course not,” admits Ed.
“Then why?” asks Shaheen.
“The last thing you’d believe is anything close to the truth,” says Ed. “The truth is: I’m not sure I know. Somebody had to help her. I just happened to be at the wrong place at the right time.”
“How much did Melville offer you?” asks Shaheen.
“The French guy?” asks Ed. “We rejected his offer.”
